The Vaughan family purchased the property -100 Hunts Road, in 1995. We found our ideal vineyard site at Tuerong on the northern part of the Mornington Peninsula, proven to be a reliable area to grow grapes due to the moderating influence of Westernport and Port Phillip Bays.
During the first 12 months we built a dam, pegged out 23 hectares of vineyard and prepared the soil. We also ran out 75 km of dripper tube, rammed 12,500 posts, ran out 600 kilometres of trellis wire and drove in 120,000 staples.
In 1996 we planted the first vines with varieties including several clones of Pinot Noir, Pinot meunier, Chardonnay ( 2 clones), Shiraz, and Sauvignon blanc.
After two years of training the vines to their permanent cordon, we had our first small crop.
Over the years we have added to the vineyard and modified some areas by grafting, as well as planting new varieties.
Twenty four years on and the vineyard now consists of Pinot noir, Pinot meunier, Pinot gris, Chardonnay, Fiano, Friulano, Traminer, Muscat a petit grain blanc, and Shiraz, with the total vineyard area being 27.5 hectares.
